Two-handed sword
safd stage combat class
March 5 – May 20
3/5/24-5/21/24
Tuesdays | 7PM-10PM
Whether you’re channeling the Power or Honor of Grayskull, picking up a reforged Andúril to defend The One Ring, protecting the North from White Walkers, or are drawn to Shakespeare’s Histories, the SAFD 2-Handed Sword Certification is right for you!
Hand and a Half & 2-Handed Swords have been staples of bladed weapons throughout the history of sword fighting around the world and throughout. In this Skills Proficiency Test class, we will explore how to meld that historical use with theatricality.
Join Society of American Fight Directors’ Certified Teacher Jonathan Ezra Rubin of Fire & Ice Movement Arts for a 30+ contact-hour skills proficiency class in 2-Handed Sword, a primary SAFD weapon discipline (formerly known as Broadsword), and explore both the fine precision and visceral grittiness of one of history’s most effective and deadly weapons.
The course will teach and provide opportunities for students to learn all of the required 2-Handed Sword Techniques for the optional Skills Proficiency Test on the final day of the course. During the class, students will learn a piece of choreography for performance that incorporates those 2-Handed Sword techniques, and if they so choose, have it adjudicated by an SAFD Fight Master for certification in 2 Handed Sword.
