Flying V is thrilled to partner with Silver Spring coffee shop, record store, and community space Bump ‘n Grind to present a one night performance of our brand new show THE VERY FABRIC OF REALITY.
Created by local musician and magician ZIA HASSAN, and directed by Producing Artistic Director JASON SCHLAFSTEIN, THE VERY FABRIC OF REALITY is a brand new one-man show that weaves together original magic, music, and storytelling to explore the relationship between randomness and meaning, and the journey of what it means to grow up. Writer and performer Zia Hassan brings the audience into a combination of concert, magic show, and conversation – an interactive experience that celebrates a world that often seems as surreal and capricious as it is intentional. The show touches on what it means to process information, the power of the patterns that guide us, and the crossroads of empowerment, adulthood, and parenting.
This show was first developed for the Flying V Awesome-A-Thon: Vol. 2, and we’re proud to share this new iteration with a larger audience. This is our first show at Bump ‘n Grind, and the beginning of a new series of Flying V performances at non-traditional theatrical venues.

But, Who Is Zia Hassan?
Zia Hassan is a storyteller. He likes to ask questions and seek honest answers from (and about) a vast array of subjects, such as love, neuroscience, solar particles, consciousness, dark matter, and surrogate motherhood.
This passion of his is the catalyst for his music, as well as multiple other creative projects including a podcast series, short films, photography, insightful blog posts, and more.
He’s a guy who keeps a pen and paper on him at all times just to make sure a new idea doesn’t get away. It’s his observation skills coupled with a genuine sense of childlike wonder that brings Zia’s music and other creative endeavors to life.
